Burn survivors face challenges that are difficult to fully understand. A serious burn injury changes the lives of the person injured as well as the lives of their friends and family. The Fire & Burn Foundation specializes in burn support and understands the pain and suffering associated with a severe burn injury. We play an integral role in transforming burn victims into burn survivors. Two of our primary support programs are the Emergency Needs Program, and our youth burn camp, Embers of Hope.

The Emergency Needs Program was created to offer financial assistance immediately following the burn injury. Some of the needs met by the Emergency Needs Program is to provide short-term lodging for low-income families of burn patients while their loved ones are being treated at the Edward G. Hirschman Burn Center at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, transportation assistance to and from the burn center for required follow-up treatment, meals and clothing.  The Fire & Burn Foundation works closely with the Social Services department at ARMC to determine the needs of the patient and families requesting assistance.

Embers of Hope is a camp specially designed for burn survivor children and is held each year over the Presidents’ Day weekend. Camp is available for children ages 5-17 and young adults 18-20. Camp is free of charge and no child is ever turned away!

For many campers it is the first time they’ve seen other burn-injured children. They learn they are not alone. Throughout the weekend, campers engage in activities focused on providing challenging, yet fun experiences to help them grow in both their physical and emotional recovery. This includes team building activities to help the children bond with other campers and forge life-long friendships.

Since its inception, Embers of Hope has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of burn-injured children helping to transform them from burn victims into burn survivors.
