AAUW Tech Trek Camp & STEAM for Big Bear Girls

WE SUPPORT BIG BEAR GIRLS

The Big Bear Valley Branch of the American Association of University Women (BBV-AAUW) funds qualifying Big Bear Middle School girls interested in STEM fields—science, technology, engineering and math—to attend a week-long summer camp at a college campus called "Tech Trek" as well as college scholarships for young women graduating from Big Bear High School studying STEM curriculum and a Speech Trek contest for local high school students.

WHAT IS TECH TREK?

In 2018, we sent 10 Big Bear Middle School girls to Tech Trek summer camp for a week-long learning experience at a college campus.

Tech Trek girls attend STEM topic classes, go on field trips and hear from STEM career female speakers all while experiencing college campus life. They conduct hands-on STEM experiments and meet other California girls with similar STEM interests.

The girls return to Big Bear energized and focused on a future STEM career. They are motivated to do their best in high school, even amid the distractions and pressures of teen years. They dream of possibilities they may not have considered before. Tech Trek opens up a world of self-confidence and empowerment for these amazing girls.

HOW TECH TREK IS FUNDED

Each girl’s family contributes just $50 and BBV-AAUW pays the remaining $900 Tech Trek camp fee per girl.  The program is financed through donations and fundraising by BBV-AAUW such as Give Big San Bernardino.

OUR GENEROUS MEMBERS - $10 from TEN

We ask each of our members to donate at least $10 and encourage them to to ask TEN of their friends and family members to do the same!  $10 from TEN for Tech Trek 2019! 

"PAY IT FORWARD" SUPPORTERS

Some of our biggest supporters include former Tech Trek girls themselves, their family members, teachers and principals.  We reach out to them to “Pay It Forward” by  making a donation and encouraging family and friends to do so. These girls and their families know first hand the huge benefit of Tech Trek.

DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE

Your donation to support Big Bear Valley AAUW's Tech Trek program is eligible for a charitable tax deduction (consult your tax professional for your particular situation). You will receive a donation receipt from The Razoo Foundation via email.
